Post-accident PTSD could make driving impossible

by | Aug 30, 2021 | Car Accidents

If you get into a car accident, it’s natural to feel pretty shaken up about it. If you or someone else is injured or killed in the accident, then things get even worse. This likely is one of the most terrifying things you’ve ever gone through in your life.

For many people, this feeling of nervousness can last for days, weeks or even months. But what if it never goes away? And what if it’s so bad that you can’t even get in the car again, or you start having flashbacks and anxiety attacks? If these are some feelings that you’re experiencing, then you may be suffering from PTSD

People with PTSD experience different symptoms

One important thing to note about PTSD is that it can manifest itself differently depending on the person. Recovery times, for instance, can be vastly different from one case to the next, so it’s hard to predict how long you’ll have to deal with it. Some people need therapy while others take medication. Some individuals who suffer from PTSD also find that only time helps them move forward.

The symptoms are also different. For instance, you may never be able to drive, while someone else may feel fine doing so during the day and suffer from nightmares when they’re trying to sleep at night. You could have an acute fear of driving in the area where the crash happened, or you could have a more generalized fear of operating a vehicle.

It’s important to consider how your PTSD is going to impact your life. You need to think about the type of treatment you might need. You may need to consider whether your PTSD may result in a loss of wages and how it may impact your family life. PTSD is a medical condition you might be able to seek compensation for in your New York auto accident case.
