Distractions can quickly overtake drivers

by | Apr 5, 2021 | Car Accidents

Distractions of all kinds can cause drivers to lose focus on what they’re doing. This could lead to a serious vehicle crash.

What many people might not realize is just how many types of distractions can be problematic for drivers. Some individuals have become so focused on cellphones that they forget about all the others.

What are some possible distractions?

A distraction is anything that makes a driver take their eyes off the road, their mind off driving or their hands off the wheel. Some distractions do all three, while others might only do one or two. In all cases, the driver is endangering themselves and others around them by becoming distracted while driving.

Some examples of distractions include:

  • Using a cellphone
  • Looking at billboards
  • Eating or drinking
  • Talking to other occupants of the vehicle
  • Manipulating electronics like GPS or the stereo
  • Putting on makeup or grooming
  • Watching children or animals

All drivers must be mindful when they drive. When a driver is distracted, they might speed, swerve or drive in other unsafe manners. If you notice anything amiss with another vehicle on the road, it might be best to try to stay away from it. This may help you to avoid a crash; however, it won’t always work.

Distracted driving kills around eight people each day in this country. It injures many more. Victims who suffer injuries and family members of those who die in these crash might opt to purse damages. This is done in the civil court system. There are strict time limits in New York, so be sure that you contact your attorney and get your case filed quickly.
